Happy New Year! I'm hoping that 2018 will be a great year for everyone, and the world as a whole. 2017 was just a terrible year for many reasons, but we can leave that behind now, and revel in the renewal and hope that each new beginning gives us.
This is a theme I explored in the final chapter of Cadenza. As I wrote in the last instalment, it has "an author with an erratic schedule" (yours truly.) So far, the people I've sent the story to received it well, and liked the fourth wall-break that I integrated. I'm very happy about the dialogue I wrote for the final confrontation. It was very fitting for the story to end at a time when more than half the world ushered in the first few hours of 2018, while others (the United States, in particular) was eagerly awaiting to bid 2017 goodbye.
Over the next few days, if my condition allows, I will begin posting Lovely and Cadenza to the site. Even if I completed Lovely back in March 2017, Cadenza's story picks up from Lovely, although it was not immediately evident at the time. That's why I held back on posting it (not to mention I was too busy at that time of the academic year.)
I am very grateful that Cadenza helped me explore my artistic boundaries like never before. With Operation May and OMEN, I stayed within my comfort zone, for the most part (barring the experimental painterly style I developed for Macoto.) I've grown not only as an artist, but also as a writer. It also helped me realise a few things, many of which are the underlying themes I hoped to tackle in both Lovely and Cadenza.
Apart from the patient readers of both stories, I am also thankful to Peng and Seeren (Chloe), who helped me with proofreading. They also gave me input that enriched some of my descriptions. Sometimes, I struggle with phrasing certain things in English, but they both allowed me to use their ideas in my work.
Now, what?
I hope to write at least one more story before I begin full-time hospital duty as a junior intern/clinical clerk (hopefully I don't fail any of my subjects...) Whether that will be a continuation or a spin-off of the Subeta AU or one of my main stories remains to be seen. For now, I might just take a little break (and maybe continue reading on ophthalmology when I've recovered from this cold.)
