Medici del Mondo
THE PRESENT
Medici del Mondo takes its roots from Asclepeion (The Order's Standing Committee on Health Systems,) founded and led by Chiharu Matsuda-Hiiragi.
Majority of Medici del Mondo's facilities were formerly under the Asclepeion system, along with rehabilitated infrastructure and equipment previously belonging to the Senerian Department of Health. It follows Asclepeion's method of operation, while completely detaching from its quasi-political and rebellious roots.
Just as in Asclepeion, Medici del Mondo holds medical and surgical missions at a regular basis. It is highly reliant on volunteers who are not formal members of the organisation, comprising 80% of participants in its projects. Donations, sponsorships (which are carefully screened and selected so as not to go against the organisation's ethical codes and principles) and funds generated from patients in pay wards are the only sources of funding.

THE PAST
Asclepeion (Standing Committee on Health Systems)
One of The Order's first divisions, Asclepeion was a non-profit organisation dedicated to bringing healthcare to individuals and communities that are not covered by government healthcare services. Asclepeion's system includes one medical school, 12 hospitals (2 primary, 1 secondary, 9 tertiary,) field hospitals in conflict and disaster-striken areas, emergency response teams, and 5 People's Pharmacies. Medical and surgical missions were held by the division at a regular basis. Asclepeion's sustenance depends on volunteer efforts, donations (both within and outside The Order,) and funds generated from patients in pay wards. 35% of the bed capacity of hospitals under the Asclepeion system were allocated for charity wards, which receive the same quality of care as pay wards. Asclepeion also raises awareness of community and public health, through empowering communities to adopt hygienic practices and employ preventative medicine. Healthcare professionals who hold membership in The Order were required to participate in at least one medical mission a year, and were encouraged to render service in charity wards, the academe, or in field hospitals. |
Senerian Department of Health
Although it was simply referred to as the "Department of Health" in common parlance (implying that it only covers one region,) the Senerian Department of Health was a worldwide organisation composed of chapters in each major region of Seneria. The "localised" nomenclature was intentional on the part of The Segment, as it sought to control every continent of Seneria. It was also known as "Grid 7" in The Segment's documents, because the main headquarters of the Senerian Department of Health encompassed most of Man's area, save for the Rhn Forest Reserve. There were two rivaling schools of thought pervading therapeutic decisions made by the Department -- pharmaceutics and "allotropic medicine", and homeopathic practice. They are represented by "teams": Team Matsuda and Team Yune, named after their proponents. Medici del Mondo similarly has Team Xavier (modernists) and Team Serafim (naturalists,) although the working relationship between doctors from the two teams is not as strained as their counterparts from the Department of Health. |
